Bocchi the Rock Anime Gets Illustration for Bocchi's Imaginary Summer Scenery

Bocchi the Rock anime released a summer illustration of Hitori Goto (Bocchi) with her fellow band members after the broadcast of episode 9. Studio CloverWorks is animating the adaptation, which is airing every Saturday.

The illustration shows all of the Kessoku Band members dressed in yukatas; Hitori Goto is holding the right hand of a happily smiling Nijika Ijichi, while Ikuyo Kita holds a paper fan and Ryo Yamada eats an apple candy. The scene is circled in a bubble to express it’s someone’s imagination, and the post came with a caption in a bubble as Bocchi: “I-In the summer break, with all the members of Kessoku Band…” In the ALT text, it’s called “Goto’s fantasy(?!)” and credits the staff members as:

  • Key Animation: Akira Hamaguchi
  • Color: Momoka Tsuji
  • Background: Yasuno Moriyasu

Animation studio CloverWorks’ Bocchi the Rock! anime is being animated under Keichiro Saito’s direction based on Aki Hamaji’s 4-koma manga serialized in Hobunsha’s monthly magazine Manga Time Kirara Max. The series released the fifth compiled volume on November 26, 2022, while the anime has been airing since October 8.

Crunchyroll is streaming the anime this season and describes the plot as:
Hitori Gotoh, “Bocchi-chan,” is a girl who’s so introverted and shy around people that she’d always start her conversations with “Ah…” During her middle school years, she started playing the guitar, wanting to join a band because she thought it could be an opportunity for even someone shy like her to also shine. But because she had no friends, she ended up practicing guitar for six hours every day all by herself. After becoming a skilled guitar player, she uploaded videos of herself playing the guitar to the internet under the name “Guitar Hero” and fantasized about performing at her school’s cultural festival concert. But not only could she not find any bandmates, before she knew it, she was in high school and still wasn’t able to make a single friend! She was really close to becoming a shut-in, but one day, Nijika Ijichi, the drummer in Kessoku Band, reached out to her. And because of that, her everyday life started to change little by little…
