Chainsaw Man Gets New Year's Pochita Visual by Character Designer

The official Twitter account of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man series released a New Year’s Day Pochita illustration drawn by the anime character designer, Kazutaka Sugiyama. On the same day, the manga released the 13th volume along with an announcement that the series surpassed 23 million copies in circulation. MAPPA animated the Chainsaw Man anime which aired from October to December 2022 with a total of 12 episodes.

The New Year’s Day visual features the Chainsaw Devil, commonly known as Pochita, dressed in kimono, enjoying rice cake on the bread, surrounded by white rabbits. It’s the year of the Rabbit in the Japanese zodiac. The character designer revealed in a tweet that he wanted it to be similar to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s profile pictures with Pochita used in the compiled manga volumes.

Tatsuki Fujimoto originally serialized the Chainsaw Man manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from December 2018 to January 2021 with a total of 11 volumes. The series’ second part has been published on Shonen Jump + since July 2022. The anime adaptation by MAPPA was chosen as Anime Corner’s most anticipated Anime of Fall 2022 by fans, and the anime also won the Google Search Awards 2022 in the Anime category.

Viz Media licensed the manga for English releases and published all 11 volumes of the first part so far. The official website describes the plot of the debut volume as:
Denji’s a poor young man who’ll do anything for money, even hunting down devils with his pet devil Pochita. He’s a simple man with simple dreams, drowning under a mountain of debt. But his sad life gets turned upside down one day when he’s betrayed by someone he trusts. Now with the power of a devil inside him, Denji’s become a whole new man—Chainsaw Man!
