Hiroki Adachi first published Hori-san to Miyamura-kun on her website, Dokkai Ahen, under the pen name HERO in 2007. The romantic comedy manga was originally a 4-koma series – a comic strip, consisting of four panels. Square Enix acquired the manga the following year and began releasing it officially.

In 2011, Daisuke Hagiwara adapted the series into a new manga titled Horimiya, which retold the original series in a typical manga format with a new art style. The 2021 TV anime adaptation is similar to Daisuke Hagiwara’s version of the manga. It ran for 12 episodes and skipped parts of the manga to adapt the ending.

Crunchyroll has announced that they will be streaming the Horimiya: The Missing Pieces anime from July, along with several other titles. You can also read our interview with the Horimiya anime director Masashi Ishihama.
