Studio 3Hz announced that it transferred all animation production and planning services over to studio A-1 Pictures, therefore ceasing to exist under that name. The studio, known for Sword Art Online: Gun Gale Online, Flip Flappers, and more, was founded in March 2013 by former Kinema Citrus animators, led by Yuichiro Matsutaka.
Studio’s upcoming work, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online 2, will now be produced under A-1 Pictures, with the same staff working under a new name. Masayuki Sakoi is directing, while Yosuke Kuroda is in charge of the series composition. Yoshio Kozakai is signing off on the character designs. The sequel is slated to premiere this October.
The latest works to come from Studio 3Hz are Healer Girl original anime, the second season of The Devil Is a Part-Timer!! and The Marginal Service original anime. Studio 3Hz producer Hideaki Kubo also posted on his personal Twitter/X that he is now a part of A-1.
A-1 Pictures is a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment’s Aniplex. It was founded in 2005 by Mikihiro Iwata. Over the years the studio has produced a number of hit anime titles, including Sword Art Online, Blue Exorcist, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, and more. It’s important to note that the animation studio CloverWorks started off as A-1 Pictures’ off-shoot in 2018, but has since separated. Both are still functioning under Aniplex.
