Hajime Isayama, known for Attack on Titan, has drawn a special illustration to celebrate the release of Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu, which will open worldwide on May 22, 2026.

The art shows the Mandalorian heading into battle while holding Grogu. A handwritten note from Isayama was also released, along with comments from several manga creators including George Morikawa, Oh! great, Ken Wakui, and Atsushi Ohkubo.

The film is the latest entry in the Star Wars franchise, following the Mandalorian, a bounty hunter, and Grogu, a child with strong Force abilities. You can Isayama’s illustration and comment below.

Hajime Isayama Comment:
“My first encounter with Star Wars was when I was shown Episodes 6 → 5 → 4 during a homestay in Idaho. The biological feel of mold and dust drifting inside inorganic spaceships—that contrast was what gave me a sense of real life within Star Wars. Above all, Grogu is just too cute, I can’t get enough of him.”

Comments from the other authors:

George Morikawa Comment:
“The hyperspace scenes in Star Wars felt like being pulled into the screen. Since then, I’ve always gone to theaters expecting to find something new, and each time I receive a lot of inspiration. It’s a film series I’ve been with for a long time, and for some reason, stories of people in a distant galaxy feel close to me. I expect The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the same.”

Oh! great Comment:
“Lightsabers, C-3PO, R2-D2, X-Wings, AT-ATs, and the Death Star… what drew me to Star Wars as a child was the overwhelming number of innovative and fascinating machines packed into the screen. What a luxury that was. Watching it again now, it feels like nothing short of a miracle. The impact I felt as a child still influences me as a manga artist, and I can see traces of this great work in many of my own creations. I envy children who will encounter Star Wars for the first time through The Mandalorian and Grogu. If possible, I’d erase my memory just to experience that impact again.”

Ken Wakui Comment:
“A new Star Wars movie!!! I was captivated by Obi-Wan and Luke, moved to tears by Obi-Wan and Anakin, and felt my heart race with Yoda and Luke. And now The Mandalorian and Grogu!!! The master-disciple relationship is a core part of Star Wars!! I want to watch it!!! I’m already excited!!!”

Atsushi Ohkubo Comment:
“There’s no end to talking about the appeal of Star Wars, but I personally love lightsabers above all! I love red ones and green ones, but blue lightsabers are my absolute favorite! Looking back, the reason I thought everything looked cool when it glowed blue might have been because of blue lightsabers! I’m of course cheering for Grogu as he walks the Mandalorian path, but I’d also love to see Grogu wield a green lightsaber someday.”

Hajime Isayama wrote and illustrated the Attack on Titan manga, which was serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine from September 2009 to April 2021.
