A sequel to the 2018 Batman Ninja anime film has been announced under the Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League title. Kamikaze Douga is returning to handle the animation production of the sequel, with Koichi Yamadera reprising his role as Batman.
Jumpei Mizusaki is also returning to direct the anime film sequel alongside Shinji Takagi. Kazuki Nakashima is doing the screenplay, Takashi Okazaki is on the character designs, and Yugo Kanno is composing the music. Further details about the sequel film will be revealed at Warner Bros. Japan’s Stage Event at Anime Expo 2024 in Los Angeles this July, alongside new details on the Suicide Squad ISEKAI anime series.
The Batman Ninja was an original Japan-made anime film directed by Junpei Mizusaki, with a screenplay by Kazuki Nakashima. Leo Chu and Eric S. Garcia worked on the English version. Production companies involved in the film were Warner Bros. Japan, DC Entertainment, Kamikaze Douga, YamatoWorks, and Barnum Studio. It was released in digital format in the United States in April 2018 before getting a theatrical release in Japan in June of that year. The film is available on Apple TV, and Prime Video, among others.
The official listing for the first film on Warner Bros.’ official website lists the plot as follows:
Japan’s finest artists reimagine Batman and his adversaries in this ground-breaking anime feature. In an all-new story, The Dark Knight travels to a land ruled by sword-wielding samurai and ninja assassins. Beginning in Gotham City, Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine malfunctions sending a crazed cast of tyrannical villains back in time to terrorize medieval Japan. The most depraved is Lord Joker, who seeks total domination of the feudal states and the final elimination of the legendary Batman. Can The Caped Crusader gain the advantage–without his signature tech– to keep Lord Joker and the others from rewriting history? Watch as an ancient legend comes to life in this stunningly realized, adrenaline-fueled addition to the Batman saga.
