The anime is based on a manga written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. Kodansha is publishing the manga in English, while Crunchyroll streams the anime. The story follows the “BLUE LOCK” project, which aims to revolutionize Japan’s soccer team through nurturing the ultimate striker. The protagonist is Isagi Yoichi, who joins the project and quickly learns that he will have to fully embrace his ego if he hopes to succeed as a striker.

We also got the chance to interview Kazuki Ura (Isagi’s Japanese voice actor), Ryoya Arisawa (anime producer), and Megumu Tsuchiya (manga editor) at this year’s Anime Expo. We talked with them about working on the manga and anime series, the challenges they faced in creating the work loved by fans worldwide, as well as what to expect from the ongoing Season 2.
