Kinugasa Shogo writes the story of the Classroom of the Elite light novel, while Tomose Shunsaku is in charge of the illustrations. The Year 1 was serialized from May 2015 until September 2019 and compiled in 14 volumes. Year 2 began in January 2020 and is still ongoing, with 5 volumes as of October 25, 2021. Seven Seas Entertainment is the official English publisher of both the manga and light novel in English, and they describe the story:
Students of the prestigious Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School are given remarkable freedom—if they can win, barter, or save enough points to work their way up the ranks! Ayanokoji Kiyotaka has landed at the bottom in the scorned Class D, where he meets Horikita Suzune, who’s determined to rise up the ladder to Class A. Can they beat the system in a school where cutthroat competition is the name of the game?
A sequel season 2 to Classroom of the Elite has been anticipated ever since the first season of the TV anime. It’s now officially happening!
