The anime adaptations of Witch Hat Atelier and Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke have revealed a special collaboration visual featuring the protagonists of both fantasy series.
The illustration features Coco from Witch Hat Atelier and Rozemyne from Ascendance of a Bookworm, with their respective mentors, Qifrey and Ferdinand, right behind them. You can see the visual below.
The collaboration arrives as both series prepare to conclude their TV broadcasts. According to the announcement, additional crossover projects are planned in the future.
Alongside the visual, the two franchises published a lengthy discussion between Witch Hat Atelier creator Kamome Shirahama and Ascendance of a Bookworm author Miya Kazuki. The pair, who have publicly expressed admiration for each other’s work for years and previously collaborated on a crossover short story, discussed their ongoing anime adaptations and creative process.
Shirahama praised Ascendance of a Bookworm‘s emotional storytelling and ending sequence, while Kazuki highlighted Witch Hat Atelier‘s faithful recreation of Shirahama’s intricate artwork and magic. The two authors also joked that Coco and Rozemyne would quickly become friends if they met, while Qifrey and Ferdinand would likely keep their distance and carefully guard their respective secrets.
Witch Hat Atelier is based on Kahome Shirahama’s award-winning fantasy manga serialized in Kodansha’s Morning Two since July 2016. Studio BUG FILMS is in charge of the animation.
Ascendance of a Bookworm is a light novel series written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by You Shiina. It was first serialized on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website from September 2013 to March 2017 before being published in print by TO Books starting in January 2015. The anime adaptation first aired in 2019, followed by additional seasons in 2020 and 2022. The new installment has WIT Studio in charge of the animation production and adapts the Adopted Daughter of an Archduke arc.
