Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door) has revealed a new visual commemorating the 25th anniversary of its theatrical release. A 4K remastered version of the film will also return to theaters in Japan on October 30, 2026.
The new anniversary visual was drawn by Toshihiro Kawamoto, who served as character designer and animation director on the film. Art director Atsushi Morikawa handled the background, while the main title was designed by Toshiaki Uesugi of Mach 55. Merchandise featuring the new artwork is also being planned.

The upcoming 4K remaster was created under the full supervision of director Shinichiro Watanabe. The nationwide theatrical run will include screenings at cinemas across Japan, including locations in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Aichi, Hiroshima and other prefectures. Attendee bonuses are also planned, with further details to be announced.
Watanabe commented on the film’s return to theaters:
“I hope you will experience the crystallization of the passion and soul we poured into this work, in the darkness of a movie theater.”
Originally released in Japan on September 1, 2001, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is a feature-length continuation of the Cowboy Bebop anime, following Spike Spiegel and the Bebop crew as they chase a bounty connected to a deadly incident on Mars.
