Crunchyroll delivered one of the biggest anime showcases of Anime Expo 2026, covering a packed slate of announcements that included a brand-new Solo Leveling theatrical film, the first character reveal for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, new trailers, release dates, and several newly licensed series heading to the platform.

Hosted by Tim Lyu and Lauren Moore at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the presentation featured multiple world premiere trailers, surprise guest appearances, and updates on some of anime’s most anticipated upcoming projects.

Solo Leveling Anime Film Officially Announced

The showcase’s biggest announcement was Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, a brand-new theatrical anime film that will continue the story directly after the events of Solo Leveling Season 2.

English voice actor Aleks Le, who plays Sung Jinwoo, appeared during the panel to reveal the project alongside a teaser visual and promotional concept video.

The film is once again being animated by A-1 Pictures and produced by Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C MEDIA, Kakao Piccoma, and Crunchyroll, with additional details to be announced at a later date.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Reveals Main Characters and Staff

Crunchyroll also offered the first proper look at the characters from the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime, which was originally announced in partnership with Aniplex, Sony Music, and PlayStation Productions.

The company also confirmed the series’ core creative team:

  • Director: Takanobu Mizuno
  • Series Composition: Gen Urobuchi (Nitro Plus)
  • Script: Gen Urobuchi and Satoshi Maejima (Nitro Plus)
  • Character Design: Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai)
  • Animation Production: Kamikaze Douga
  • Production: HAYATE Inc.

Unlike the original Ghost of Tsushima game centered on Jin Sakai, the anime adapts the supernatural Legends multiplayer experience inspired by Japanese folklore. The series was previously confirmed for a 2027 release.

Dave Grohl Joins The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy At All

One of the showcase’s biggest surprises came with a video message from Dave Grohl, who revealed that Nirvana’s “Breed” will serve as the opening theme for the upcoming anime adaptation of The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy At All.

The yuri romantic comedy is scheduled to premiere in early 2027, with studio CloverWorks in charge of the animation.

Kagurabachi Shares New Look

Following the recent announcement that Kagurabachi will stream on Crunchyroll in 2027, attendees were treated to a Q&A featuring Japanese voice actor Taihi Kimura alongside Crunchyroll News Editor-in-Chief Kyle Cardine.

Fans also received an exclusive first look at protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira’s provisional character design sheet.

New Series Coming to Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll also announced or shared new trailers for several upcoming titles, including:

  • Here U Are (manhwa adaptation)
  • Fate Rewinder (April 2027)
  • Dengeki Daisy (2027)
  • Gacha Girls Corps (January 2027)
  • Magical Buffs: The Support Caster is Stronger Than He Realized! (January 2027)
  • Overgeared (2026)
  • The Vermilion Mask (October 2026)

Returning Anime Receive New Updates

Several returning series also received new announcements during the showcase.

The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5 is scheduled to arrive on Crunchyroll in 2027, while Aoashi Season 2 is set to premiere in October 2026.

Together, the announcements made Crunchyroll’s Anime Expo 2026 presentation one of the event’s busiest showcases so far.
