Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan manga is getting an anime adaptation by Science Saru with Fuga Yamashiro as the director. Hiroshi Seko will be writing the script and doing the series composition. The adaptation will premiere in 2024.
Kensuke Ushio will be composing the music, while Naoyuki Onda is the character designer.
Dandadan manga started serialization in 2021 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service. Prior to the publication, Tatsu worked as Tatsuki Fujimoto’s assistant on Fire Punch and Chainsaw Man, as well as Yuji Kaku’s assistant on Jigokuraku.
Viz Media licensed the manga and describes the plot as:
Momo Ayase strikes up an unusual friendship with her school’s UFO fanatic, whom she nicknames “Okarun” because he has a name that is not to be said aloud. While Momo believes in spirits, she thinks aliens are nothing but nonsense. Her new friend, meanwhile, thinks the exact opposite. To settle matters, the two set out to prove each other wrong—Momo to a UFO hotspot and Okarun to a haunted tunnel! What unfolds next is a beautiful story of young love…and oddly horny aliens and spirits?
In a recent interview that Anime Corner conducted with Wagakki Band, Kurona, the wadaiko player in the group, stated that he thinks their music would be a good choice for Dandadan, should it ever get an anime adaptation.
