The anime is based on a light novel series written by Nana Nanana with illustrations provided by Parum. It has been published under Kadokawa’s Dengeki Bunko label since January 2021 and currently has 10 volumes in circulation. A manga adaptation illustrated by Kamelie was launched in August 2021.
The story is described as follows:
Danjo no Yujo wa Seiritsu suru? (Iya, Shinai!!) is a coming-of-age love comedy about two high school students, the cheerful girl Himari Inuzuka, and the flower-loving boy Yu Natsume, who pledged eternal friendship in junior high school. The two had been best friends since junior high, but their destiny is thrown out of whack when Yu reunites with his first love from the past.
