Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon (DanMachi) light novel series will enter its final arc with the upcoming Volume 21, as revealed by the author Fujino Omori in a recent interview. Speaking about the upcoming events, he said: “Even now, I’m struggling with many things! I don’t want anyone to experience horrible things anymore!! But… I think it’s inevitable that some grim developments will occur.” The title of the final arc will be Shumatsu-hen (The Final Chapter).
Volume 20, which concludes the District Arc, was released in Japan on December 15.
Fujino Omori writes the DanMachi light novel, which features illustrations by Suzuhito Yasuda. It began on January 15, 2013, getting 20 volumes published as of December 15, 2024. Yen Press licensed it in English, while HIDIVE streams the anime adaptation.
The series has numerous spin-offs and adaptations, including Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side: Sword Oratoria. This side story follows Ais Wallenstein’s perspective, with its 15th volume set to release around January 15, 2025.
Omori revealed that fans can pick up Sword Oratoria Volume 15 immediately after reading DanMachi Volume 20, even if they haven’t read earlier installments of the side story. The volume will have both a regular edition and a special edition featuring a bonus booklet. You can see the covers for both below.
Fullland of Water and Light is the latest game adaptation, set to release on February 27, 2025.
The anime adaptation is currently covering the Fertility Goddess arc. HIDIVE describes its story:
Goddess Festival—A fruit festival that brings the labyrinth city of Orario to life. Goddesses symbolizing fertility are enshrined on the altar, and among them is the Goddess of Beauty. Bell Cranel, who has survived and returned to his daily life from the dead depths of the dungeon, is here and ready to enjoy the bustle of the Goddess Festival until he receives a letter from a girl at a small bar in a corner of Orario—”To Mr. Bell, please go on a date with just the two of us at the upcoming Goddess Festival. From Syr.” Syr’s single-minded determination will drive both Bell and the labyrinth city crazy. Meanwhile, the Einherjar, the warriors who claim to be the “strongest,” are now suddenly on the move…
In addition to his work on DanMachi, Omori is currently working on his ongoing light novel series Wistoria: Wand and Sword as well. He recently drew a special illustration featuring both Bell Cranel and Will Serfort between the two anime adaptations. In the interview, he also mentioned that he has an idea for a romantic comedy, but he said that he wants to focus on finishing the ongoing series properly first.
