DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR is part of a larger intellectual property created by HYBE in collaboration with K-pop group ENHYPEN. The story, available as both a webtoon and a web novel, centers on seven vampire characters and a mysterious girl. The anime adaptation was first announced in September 2024 at last year’s Aniplex Online Fest.
ENHYPEN’s involvement with the series has included original music contributions and references to DARK MOON in albums and music videos. Their track “CRIMINAL LOVE” (2023), featured in the series, topped the iTunes Song Chart in eight countries. HYBE’s official statement on the series recently exceeding 200 million views:
“The global success of DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR with over 200 million views is a testament to the love from our readers. We will continue to deliver captivating stories that transcend genres and formats, offering content that lets viewers experience the story in real life.”
Dark Moon: The Blood Altar initially ran for a total of 70 chapters from January 2022 to August 2023, with Yen Press publishing an English print version under its Ize Press imprint. The webtoon is available in English on WEBTOON, where its story is described:
Welcome to Riverfield, where the most popular boys at two rival schools happen to be vampires and werewolves. When a mysterious new student, Sooha, transfers to Riverfield, the rivals find themselves inexplicably drawn to her. As horrible incidents start to shake the town, the boys’ forgotten pasts slowly start to unravel… and their world turns upside down.
