Detective Conan creator Gosho Aoyama has confirmed that a storyboard draft for the manga’s final chapter already exists.
Aoyama discussed the ending during an appearance on the pre-broadcast program 24-Hour Television Latest Information SP. He was interviewed at his workplace by musician Chanmina and SixTONES member Taiga Kyomoto, who are both longtime fans of the series.
When Chanmina asked whether he thinks about the end of his career and Detective Conan, Aoyama revealed that he has already drawn a draft for the final chapter. He jokingly asked whether they wanted to see it before adding that the ending is “interesting.”
Aoyama did not disclose any story details or indicate when Detective Conan will conclude.
During the interview, Aoyama also said he never expected the series to become as successful as it has, initially believing it would end quickly. He recalled the release of the first theatrical film as the point when he first realized how popular the series had actually become.
Aoyama also mentioned a conversation with ONE PIECE creator Eiichiro Oda, saying that the two had discussed the unusual experience of seeing manga they write adapted into weekly TV anime on a regular basis.
Detective Conan, also known as Case Closed, is a Japanese detective manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. Crunchyroll streams the anime, describing the story:
The son of a world famous mystery writer, Shinichi Kudo, has achieved his own notoriety by assisting the local police as a student detective. He has always been able to solve the most difficult of criminal cases using his wits and power of reason.
