Dragon Ball officially announced a brand new game titled Age 1000 during today’s Genkidamatsuri event, where a sequel anime to Dragon Ball Super was also announced. The game will feature a new original character that was designed by Akira Toriyama himself, and is set to release in 2027. According to the staff, the project started a while ago, and they’ve been working on it a lot. “More elements and settings were packed into AGE1000 than in any other game in the past and Mr. Toriyama has put a lot of work into it.”
The latest updates will be unveiled at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 in the U.S. on April 18-19.
Prior to revealing the new anime and game, a DRAGON BALL 40th Anniversary Special Video was released simultaneously worldwide. The video was created as a commemorative animation bringing Akira Toriyama’s color illustrations to life using modern animation techniques, with a strong focus on faithfully recreating the textures and colors of his artwork. Produced by Toei Animation and directed by Naoki Miyahara, the special video visually traces Son Goku’s growth and journey across the Dragon Ball series.
The music for the special video is a brand-new original composition written specifically for the project by Hans Zimmer, with the theme titled “Infinite Future.” The orchestral score was arranged by Tom Lucas. Hans Zimmer also shared a message celebrating Dragon Ball’s 40th anniversary and his participation in the project. The announcement video concludes with the reveal of the new anime.

The previous game for the franchise was DRAGON BALL: Sparking ZERO, which topped the pre-order charts for both Playstation and Steam ahead of its October 11, 2024 launch with 3 million sold copies within the first 24 hours. The game is developed by Spike Chunsoft, which previously also worked on DRAGON BALL Z: BUDOKAI TENKAICHI. It was the first entry in the DRAGON BALL Z: BUDOKAI TENKAICHI series in 15 years, and released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It featured 182 playable characters at launch.
The latest movie Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO arrived to theaters in August 2022, and it had a strong opening weekend in North America. Dragon Ball also recently finished airing its Dragon Ball DAIMA anime, while it has other projects in development. One of them is the Dragon Ball Theme Park, which is planned to cover 500,000 square meters and be a key part of the Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia.
