Nanaki Nanao’s fantasy manga Helck is getting an anime adaptation, 4 years after the series ended. The manga was serialized on the MangaONE app and in Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday magazine from 2014 to 2017. There is still no information about the anime production.
Both the author and Sho Kobayashi, an editor working at the Ura Sunday magazine where the manga was serialized, posted the announcement on Twitter along with a special illustration commemorating the news:
As mentioned above, Helck manga was serialized from May 5, 2014, to December, 8 2017 and has a total of 106 chapters compiled in 12 volumes. The story is set in Demon World, where a new King is being elected. Helck, a muscular and strong man, joins the competition while proclaiming that he wishes to exterminate all humans. Vamirio, who is one of the Four Heavenly Kings and a judge of sorts for the competition, notices Helck and wonders just what his motives are. What is his secret? The manga was never licensed in English.
Nanaki Nanao expanded the Helck universe with a spin-off miniseries about Piwi in 2018 and a sequel manga focused on Cleo Völundio and Kohaku, titled Iken Senki Völundio (started serialization in 2020).
