Fresh Picks: 10 New Anime Series Launching in Summer 2025

While big sequels are raiding this summer, several brand-new anime are looking to make strong first impressions and steal the show. With a mix of action, romance, horror, and comedy, here are ten new series debuting in Summer 2025 that may just deserve a place on your watchlist.

With that said, here are all the new anime coming next season, and you can also still vote for your most anticipated anime of Summer 2025.

Gachiakuta

First on the list is Gachiakuta, the anime adaptation of Kei Urana’s shonen manga. Animated by Studio BONES FILM and premiering on July 6, this series follows Rudo, a young man wrongfully accused of murder and cast into a chaotic world known as “the Abyss.” There, surrounded by trash and criminals, he discovers he may not be as powerless as he thought.

The trailers promise high-energy battles with graffiti-inspired aesthetics, with Fumihiko Suganuma handling the direction. It’s one of Crunchyroll’s flagship exclusives for the season, and no shonen fan can skip it.

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity

If you’re looking for something more romantic, The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity is a high school story between a humble bakery worker and a popular elite-class girl. The new anime premieres on July 5 and is one of three shows animated by CloverWorks for Summer 2025.

Miyuki Kuroki (Akebi’s Sailor Uniform) is in charge of the direction, while the anime will be streaming worldwide via Netflix. The platform also confirmed 1-week delayed streaming for regions outside Japan, much like we had with Blue Box and SAKAMOTO DAYS.

Uglymug, Epicfighter

On the sillier side, Uglymug, Epicfighter is a new isekai coming in Summer 2025 that I really look forward to. The protagonist, Shigeru, is cursed with lethal ugliness (-255), but also happens to be an insanely overpowered protagonist in exchange.

Studio WHITE FOX is in charge of the animation, with Toshiyuki Sone as the director. The series kicks off on July 6, with Junichi Suwabe voicing the main character. You can also check the full staff and cast.

The Summer Hikaru Died

Moving on to something darker, The Summer Hikaru Died is bringing some psychological horror with a slice-of-life cover. Adapted by CygamesPictures and premiering on July 5, the story follows Yoshiki as he realizes his best friend Hikaru, who’d gone missing in the mountains, may not have come back entirely human.

Directed by Ryohei Takeshita, the anime’s trailers have already set an eerie tone. The anime is described as a coming-of-age horror, and it will be streaming exclusively on Netflix.

City the Animation

From Kyoto Animation comes CITY THE ANIMATION, a joyful slice-of-life comedy adapted from Keiichi Arawi’s (Nichijou) manga. Set to stream on Prime Video from July 6, the series will drop us into a town full of chaotic residents.

Directed by Taichi Ishidate, who was the assistant director on Nichijou and directed Violet Evergarden, that already seems like crazy fun.

Detectives These Days Are Crazy!

Detectives These Days Are Crazy! is coming on July 1, and it seems like it’s going to bring a buddy-cop comedy to a high school setting. Studio LIDEN FILMS is animating, with Rion Kujo as the director. Veteran detective Nagumo teams up with a reluctant student assistant to solve increasingly ridiculous crimes.

While its “gori gori” isn’t likely to rival “shikanonokonokonokokoshitantan,” it seems like it may just bring about some crazy references of its own. The anime will be streaming on Crunchyroll.

Ruri Rocks

Studio Bind (Mushoku Tensei) is coming to Summer 2025 with their new anime. Ruri Rocks. The story follows Ruri, a young girl who likes jewelry and gemstones, as she enters the world of mineralogy and learns more about it.

Shingo Fujii directing the anime, which is set to premiere on July 6. The trailers have already shown numerous beautiful shots, and Ruri Rocks promises to deliver some beautiful wholesomeness.

Dealing with Mikadono Sisters Is a Breeze

P.A. Works (Skip and Loafer) is trying its hand at family romcom with Dealing with Mikadono Sisters Is a Breeze, set to premiere on July 9. Based on the manga by Aya Hirakawa, the story follows Yu Ayase, who moves in with three genius yet oddly easygoing sisters. The three sisters each have unique talents, with trailers revealed to introduce them:

The anime is directed by Tadahito Matsubayashi, featuring series composition by Takayo Ikami, character design by Yusuke Inoue, and music by Masaru Yokoyama. You can watch the main trailer below.

TOUGEN ANKI: Legend of the Cursed Blood

Another new shonen on the list, TOUGEN ANKI: Legend of the Cursed Blood anime is joining Gachiakuta to represent the dark fantasy genre in Summer 2025. Adapted from the manga by Yura Urushibara, the series follows Shiki Ichinose, a boy who inherits the cursed blood of demons and joins a secret battle between Oni and humans.

Studio HIBARI leads production, and the show already had a limited theatrical screening in Japan. It is aiming to be one of the widest available anime of the season, confirmed to stream worldwide on Netflix, Crunchyroll, Prime Video, and more.

Hotel Inhumans

Scheduled to premiere on July 6, Hotel Inhumans is set in a mysterious hotel that caters exclusively to assassins and underground figures. The story follows Sara Haizaki and Ikuro Hoshi, staff members who maintain the hotel’s operations while quietly managing its darkest secrets.

Directed by Tetsuro Amino with series composition by Shoji Yonemura, the anime will be streaming on Crunchyroll worldwide. The main trailer and key visual were revealed earlier this month (trailer also available on X with broader region accessibility).

Other Promising Titles

While the list is limited to just 10 titles I found most interesting myself, there are still plenty of interesting shows that seem promising. Here’s some more I’ll definitely be trying out:

Takopi’s Original Sin

Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra

Solo Camping for Two

Dekin no Mogura: The Earthbound Mole

Secrets of the Silent Witch

Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse – July 2

Lord of the Mysteries (Donghua) – June 28

And that’s it for some of the most interesting new anime coming in Summer 2025! You can still vote for your most anticipated anime of Summer 2025, and feel free to let us know what you’re most excited for.
