Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 anime officially revealed the first teaser trailer ahead of its January premiere. The anime was previously confirmed for January 2026, with Crunchyroll also announcing the acquisition earlier today. Studio MADHOUSE is handling the animation, and a new mini-anime episode featuring Denken, Richter and Lawine was also recently revealed.
The news today arrived at Anime Expo 2025, which is taking place through July 3-6 in Los Angeles. In addition to the new trailer, it was also announced that Tomoya Kitagawa, worked on storyboards and directed multiple episodes in Season 1, will direct Season 2.
Season 1 director Keiichiro Saito will be overseeing Season 2 as its supervising director. Additional staff includes Assistant Director Daiki Harashina; series composition by Tomohiro Suzuki; Character Design by Takasemaru, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka; Concept Art by Seiko Yoshioka; and Evan Call will return to compose the music.

The first season of the anime was also animated by MADHOUSE and ran for 28 episodes from September 29, 2024. It was directed by Keiichiro Saito, with series composition by Tomohiro Suzuki. Reiko Nagasawa was the character designer, with the chief animation direction led by Yuri Fujinaka, Reiko Nagasawa, and Maru Takase. Evan Call composed the music. The main voice cast for the anime included:
- Atsumi Tanezaki as Frieren
- Kana Ichinose as Fern
- Chiaki Kobayashi as Stark
- Nobuhiko Okamoto as Himmel
- Yoji Ueda as Eisen
- Atsuko Tanaka as Flamme
- Hiroki Tochi as Heiter
- Ayana Taketatsu as Aura
In our 2024 Anime of the Year Awards, Frieren was the runner-up Best Anime, narrowly losing out against The Dangers in My Heart Season 2. It won Best Adaptation, Best Adventure, Best Fantasy, Best Voice Cast and Best World Building.
Kanehito Yamada writes the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga, with illustrations from Tsukasa Abe. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday manga magazine since April 2020. The manga is available to read via Sunday Webry, Viz Media, and the Shogakukan Comic website, while Crunchyroll streams the anime.
