The popular Playstation game Ghost of Tsushima is officially getting an anime adaptation, set for a 2027 release date. Studio KAMIKAZE DOUGA will be in charge of the animation, with Takanobu Mizuno as the director and Gen Urobuchi on the series composition.
Crunchyroll made the announcement, revealing that they will work with Aniplex, Sony Music and PlayStation Productions on the project. The anime’s title is Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, and a teaser visual was also released.
Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2020. There is also an upcoming film adaptation, which has been in development since 2022. Sucker Punch Productions describes the story for the game:
BECOME THE GHOST.
The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan—until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting—the way of the Ghost—as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.
A sequel game, Ghost of Yotei, is also currently in production and set for a 2025 release.
