Guild Receptionist Episode 2 - A Challenger Appears

The currently running anime I May Be a Guild Receptionist, but I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time aired Episode 2 this past Saturday, January 18. The story continues to follow the adorable, yet feisty, Alina Clover in her quest (no pun intended) to live a relaxing life free from doing overtime at her job.

Episode two establishes that Alina is still very determined to continue being the executioner in order to avoid overtime work, even though her secret isn’t so tightly kept. We also get a small glimpse into Alina’s past, but there are still many questions as to how exactly she became so powerful. We know that a god blessed her with a weapon, but there must be more than that.

Beyond Your Typical Rude Customer

Guild Receptionist Episode 2 contains a series of events mostly springing from a rude customer, Slay, with whom Alina deals with at the very beginning of the episode. When Slay doesn’t get his way while requesting special quests, he wreaks havoc on the town with a reactivated golem monster, destroying Alina’s house in the process.

Alina is not going to let go without her own taste of revenge, so we once again get to see her in full action as the executioner. While I feel bad for Alina, I also can’t help but laugh at her anger as she exclaims that her house is her own little heaven – a place of relief after work. I know exactly how she feels – other than the part where her house is destroyed by a golem.

Not only is her day at work ruined by a rowdy customer (been there, done that) but now her only place of relaxation has been taken from her. Will these kinds of bad circumstances continue to pile up until she can’t take it anymore?

After Episode 1, I was wondering where the show would go, especially considering that Alina’s secret was already at major risk of being found out. Two major plot points happened during the last few minutes of this episode. One is that Jade and Alina discover a quest at the guild requesting all monsters be slain in a single dungeon, a seemingly impossible feat.

The second is that Alina has officially been found out by Glenn, a guild master. In the last few seconds of Guild Receptionist Episode 2, Glenn wields his weapon and challenges Alina to a battle, most likely wanting to find out more about her adventurer-like power despite being just a receptionist.

Alina is a much more mysterious person than I wagered during the first episode of Guild Receptionist. Episode 2 made it clear that maybe she knows more than she lets on about dungeons, adventuring, and wielding weapons. While we saw a small part of Alina’s not-so-distant past, where her dedication to work led her to miss out on a fun festival, there’s probably much more to her past. We may have to wait until after this fight with Glenn to jump into that. I’ve continued to love Alina’s personality and fiery attitude, and I’m so stoked to see her fight such a tough opponent in Episode 3.
