What’s Bocchi the Rock About?

Once there was a rock; its name was Bocchi.

Bocchi the Rock follows Hitori “Bocchi” Gotoh, a girl with social skills so atrocious that Komi-san laughs at her. Like a dude in a post-hardcore band, she knows she can’t make friends, so she spends all her time mastering guitar in the hopes it will make her popular. So she dragged her guitar to school, hoping it would be the catalyst for conversation. But instead, it becomes the reason why she’s invited to play a live show. Alongside the drummer Nijika Ijichi and bassist Ryo Yamada, despite her exceptional guitar skills, Bocchi performs poorly. Yet, realizing she’s found kindred souls, Bocchi tries to overcome her social anxiety and joins their band full-time. An act that once again proves that the power of friendship is all one needs in life.

CloverWorks adapted Aki Hamaji’s 4-panel manga, and its first season aired as part of the 2022 Fall Anime Season. Bocchi the Rock has been serialized by Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Max since 2017. At the end of the “We Will B” tour, a second season of the anime was announced.
