After months of production, old and new fans were able to see the new Kinnikuman series at the “Kinnikuman-Perfect Origin Arc- Premiere Screening and Behind Story Talk by the Director and Producer” Anime Expo 2024 panel, which was hosted by Pony Canyon.
Present at the panel were Director Akira Sato, Production I.G. producer Rui Kuroki, along with a surprise special guest, Mamoru Miyano, the voice of Kinnikuman. At the panel, the panelists talked about the behind-the-scenes process of creating the series and answered questions voted by fans.
At the panel, Episode 0 and 1 of the new series were shown. At the end of the screening, it left everyone at the cliffhanger where Terryman gets ready to fight a mysterious enemy called the Real Perfect Chojin. After the screening, they were given a small introduction to the Kinnikuman series before the panelists discussed the behind-the-scene process of creating the Perfect Origin Arc. In the Q&A session, the audience voted for four questions out of the five that the panelists answered.
Since Kinnikuman is a unique series that revolves around wrestling, one of the questions was what viewers can relate to when watching the series. Producer Kuroki responded that it’s “a very tough question” to answer. He mentioned that he liked to watch professional wrestling and felt that “muscles cross all borders.” Miyano asked the audience if they liked special attacks and said, “There’s a whole lot of them.” Unlike Kuroki and Miyano, Sato’s answer focused on the story. He answered, “It’s a story about people coming together” and added that he believes that concept crosses all borders.
They were then asked about the appeal of Kinnikuman, to which they all replied “muscles.” Sato also said that “there are a lot of unique characters and when they’re in the ring they fight like idiots.” He wanted people watching the series to enjoy what they saw while “laughing their heads off.” Similarly to Sato, Kuroki also mentioned the different types of Chojin with unique characteristics, laughs, and special attacks. He believes anyone who watched the series can “enjoy that very much.” He also answered that another appeal to the Kinnikuman anime was “flexing [the muscles] left and right.”
Miyano also believed that the audience “would get excited,” from seeing muscles and how they were always “flexing left and right” in the anime.
At the end of the panel, fans competed against Miyano in a rock-paper-scissors competition. The three winners received a signed Kinnikuman promotional poster by Sato, Kuroki, and Miyano. They then announced that the series was coming to Netflix soon before sharing their final messages and taking a commemorative photo of the panel.
Kinnikuman -Perfect Origin Arc- is currently streaming worldwide on Netflix.
