Kyoto Animation’s KA Esuma Bunko imprint revealed a commercial for the upcoming Marine Princess Mare (Umihime Mare) light novel. The light novel, which is imprint’s 10th-anniversary work, is set for March 18 release. Marine Princess Mare was written by Masashi Nishikawa (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S screenwriter) and features illustrations by Akiko Takase (Violet Evergarden character designer).
The commercial was animated by Kyoto Animation studio. Kenichi Sudo composed and arranged the music, while YuReeNa provided vocal support. KyoAni describes the plot as:
This is a fair tale from the sea.
Far to the east, beyond a sea, there was a sea kingdom where fish lived. A princess of the kingdom was never the one for tradition, so she uses magic to grow legs and go to the land. Her goal s to regain the former glory, but instead, she finds herself on a remote island with only 200 inhabitants. And so her adventure begins…
The official website for the novel also introduces the characters:
- Mare – a stubborn princess, who often suffers her father’s disapproval because she is not “girly” enough
- Takami Osato – a 15 year old student, who helps his uncle during the summer. He lost his parents in an accident and is often quiet when among people
- Shino Kuroshima – a 16 year-old high school student from Kyoto. Takami is her diving instructor. Shino used to do modelling work, before her father made her quit
- Ito Nakamura – a 13 year-old who hates spending time on the remote island and years for the city. Ito is often clingy with Shino
