Hawai’i is a primordial paradise on Earth. Crystal clear waters, fine white sand, active volcanoes, superb sport fishing, and lush tropical jungles. A place so mystical that it seems to defy belief. How can words describe the splendor of a place that makes spam a part of its haute cuisine? It’s a place that beckons, one that enchants. A state that engraves itself so deeply into your soul that you completely forget it wasn’t there originally. Hawai’i is the place to be, and that’s not the words of a lowly Anime Corner writer. It’s the words of Lycoris Recoil‘s Chisato Nishikigi. And with the Lycoris Recoil Hawaiian cafe & diner collab, you too can taste some Hawaiian cuisine (minus the Spam).
From February 3 – March 20, the Shibuya, Shinsaibashi, and Nagoya PARCO locations will feature a Hawaiian version of the Cafe LycoReco menu. Patrons of the cafe will be randomly given a restaurant-exclusive coaster (nine designs are available). All the cafe locations will also include a goods shop, which will sell various merch items that can also be purchased through the online PARCO shop. These include acrylic stands, stickers, trading cards, tin badges, charms, mugs, totes, life-sized tapestries (only available through the online shop), floor mats, and towels.
The items will range from as little as ¥330 (~2.25 USD) for the trading card to ¥11500 (~78 USD) for the life-sized tapestries. All goods have limited amounts, so there’s a limit on how much customers can buy. The menu, apart from being loosely based on the original LycoRyco Cafe menu, will include a Hawaiian twist to it. Patrons who visit the Lycoris Recoil Hawaiian cafe and diner can sample tropical drinks, Hawaiian-influenced main dishes, and anime-style desserts and hot beverages. Patrons who acquire a Novelty Cafe Reservation Ticket will be given priority when it comes to seating and goods. Purchasing this also comes with a commemorative ticket.
The A-1 Pictures original anime Lycoris Recoil aired from July 2 to September 24, 2022. A fan favorite, the show inspired several collaboration events, a spin-off manga, and a future continuation. The series streamed via Crunchyroll, Aniplus Aisa, Aniplus TV, Bilibii, and Bahamut Anime Crazy. centering around the lives of Chisato Nishikigi and Takina Inoue, both of whom are members of Direct Attack — an organization that raises orphans and trains them as assassins to combat terrorist organizations under the Lycoris Program.
Takina, a gifted Lycoris is transferred to Cafe LycoReco after a botched assassination job. There she meets the famed Lycoris Chisato Nishikigi but is flabbergasted by the person she meets. Instead of a cold-hearted, efficient killer, she meets an aloof girl who refuses to take a life and instead focuses on resolving matters in non-lethal ways.
