Man Sentenced to One-Year Prison Sentence for Harassing Yui Ishikawa

Fukuta Kishimoto has been found guilty of harassing and threatening voice actress Yui Ishikawa. The 25-year-old male, who pleaded guilty, was arrested in December and has already served time for a similar offense.

Kishimoto admitted to writing a message online to Ishikawa and threatening to stab and kill her. The suspect was previously sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to threatening the voice actress in April 2020. Having asked for a more lenient sentence, he was sentenced to one year in prison as declared by the Tokyo District Court in its ruling on February 9. The court found this appropriate, considering Ishikawa’s fear and anxiety induced by the threats.

Kishimoto threatened anime staff and cast members in the past. He posted death threats targeting anime director Tatsuki (Kemono Friends) and voice actress Yui Ishikawa in 2020. Having received such threats, both Ishikawa and Tatsuki filed police reports in April and May respectively that year, which eventually led to Kishimoto’s arrest in June 2020 on suspicion of intimidation and forcible obstruction of business.

Yui Ishikawa is a voice actress from Hyogo Prefecture. She is noted for her roles as Mikasa Ackerman in Attack on Titan, Violet Evergarden in Violet Evergarden, 2B from NieR: Automata, and Kyururu in Kemono Friends. Anime director Tatsuki worked on the first season of Kemono Friends in 2017.
