MANGA MIRAI, the new digital manga platform developed by NTT DOCOMO in collaboration with MyAnimeList, Akatsuki Group, and MEDIA DO, made its first North American appearance at Anime Expo 2025. The booth attracted interest from manga fans, cosplayers, and content creators.
Attendees were able to explore the platform using on-site tablets, participate in giveaways through a gacha-style prize machine, and view physical copies of manga titles available in the app’s digital catalog. Photo areas and interactive displays contributed to a strong social media presence throughout the event. The latest major expansion to the platform was a partnership with VIZ Media, which consists of approximately 4,000 volumes coming to the platform in stages. Some of them are One Piece, NARUTO, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, as well as newer hits like Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and Call of the Night.
The platform, which launched in Japan in March 2025, aims to improve accessibility for English-speaking manga readers by offering official titles in a mobile-optimized, easy-to-use format. With digital manga accounting for a substantial share of the Japanese market, MANGA MIRAI seeks to support similar growth internationally by shortening release delays and streamlining access for global users.
Beyond its platform features, MANGA MIRAI represents a broader cross-cultural initiative focused on evolving the way manga is distributed and experienced between Japan and North America.
Following its launch at Anime Expo, MANGA MIRAI will continue its promotional efforts at Anime NYC later this year. The booth will feature the same core attractions, including app demonstrations, a manga reading area, photo opportunities, and merchandise giveaways.
A collaboration between NTT DOCOMO, MyAnimeList Co., Ltd., Akatsuki Group, and MEDIA DO Co., Ltd., MANGA MIRAI was launched in March 2025 with the goal of bringing Japan’s manga culture to the global audience. The name “Mirai” (meaning “future”) is meant to support the platform’s mission, which is to support creators, offer high-quality official translations, and provide global readers with access to both established hits and fresh discoveries.
As of now, MANGA MIRAI offers:
- A cross-publisher library of popular and original titles
- Dedicated sections for anime-adapted series (e.g., WIND BREAKER, BLUE LOCK)
- A hybrid reading model (per-volume and per-episode purchases)
- Web + app access via Apple Store and Google Play
