If you watched the 2023 anime, this is where the manga’s My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 story continues! From the warmth of Yamada and Akane’s developing romance to tense moments and well-earned retaliation, Volume 5 has it.
In this volume, Akane comes into her own, demonstrating that she is more than just a happy girl. This is a fascinating and fulfilling read because of the depth added by the contrast between online personas and real-life identities.
After a night out with their friends, Yamada and Akane finally make their feelings known and become an official couple. While Yamada is busy with cram school and final exams, Akane makes a new friend in the game—a girl named Yui.
Soon the two girls are making plans to get together in real life, but guild master Eita is worried Akane is too quick to meet strangers—and he might be right. When Akane meets Yui for dinner, Yui’s boyfriend shows up unannounced. As it turns out, he’s from a rival gaming guild and his intentions are anything but pure.
Manga Review: My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 Vol. 5
I take back my praise for Volume 4 from my last review. Volume 5 was amazing. You eventually get to witness the fluffiness of Yamada and Akane being together. Akane even has her own badass time. I appreciate how she is a cheerful girl yet knows her limits quite well.
Their relationship seemed natural and appealing, which I really liked. With this energetic girl and this blunt guy, their complementary balance is simply ideal. You can immediately see how much they love one another.
You get to know new characters and begin to figure out who is genuine and who is not. When you meet someone in person, their true self appears, even though they may have a fake person on the internet. This volume shows how different people can be in real life and online.
The amount of development that is contained in this volume is what I found most admirable. From the excitement of retaliation to the highs of romance, you get to experience it all. You can feel the love blossoming between Yamada and Akane at the beginning, and by the end, you get that satisfying moment of revenge against those who were lying.

Design Review:
My view of the book cover remains the same as in my last review of the other volumes. If you’d like to see my opinion, you can read my previous review, which goes more in-depth with my thoughts on the cover of the series. In general, I felt that the cover was plain and didn’t capture the gamer energy that the story provides. I wish they had included more gaming-related design elements, similar to the original Japanese version.
