The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) anime series has released a short preview video and visuals of their 14th episode airing on January 12. The episode is titled “The New Pure Consort” and is summarized as:
It was decided that the consorts, including the new Pure Consort Loulan, would be taking consort lessons. Maomao, who failed the exam to be an Outer Court Lady and became Jinshi’s personal maid, was recommended by both consort Gyokuyou and Lihua to be in charge of those lessons. Maomao orders teaching materials from the Verdigris House and teaches the consorts secret techniques they can use in the bedroom. That night, while Maomao was resting after her class, she heard a suspicious sound outside, which aroused her curiosity.

Based on a light novel series of the same name, The Apothecary Diaries is written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. The light novel series is serialized by Shunfunotomo and has inspired a manga adaptation and an anime series. The manga adaptation is written by Itsuki Nanao and illustrated by Nekokurage while the anime series was directed by Norihiro Naganuma. The manga is published by Square Enix and is serialized in their Monthly GanGan magazine. TOHO Animation and OML are in charge of the animation of The Apothecary Diaries anime series. The anime series aired its first cour from October 2023 to December 2023.
The light novel has also inspired a short mini-anime series called Maomao’s Diaries (Maomao no Hitorigoto). Maomao’s Diaries features the main character, Maomao, as she explains the key items shown during the week’s current episode. Maomao’s Diaries is streaming on TOHO Animation’s official YouTube Channel and it currently has 13 short episodes.
J-Novel Club has currently licensed the light novel series and is publishing it digitally while the manga adaptation is licensed and published by Square Enix. Square Enix will also physically publish the light novel series in English starting in May 2024.
The Apothecary Diaries anime series is streaming on Crunchyroll in both English subtitles and dubbed. The streaming site described the series as:
Maomao lived a peaceful life with her apothecary father. Until one day, she’s sold as a lowly servant to the emperor’s palace. But she wasn’t meant for a compliant life among royalty. So when the imperial heirs fall ill, she decides to step in and find a cure catching the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official who promotes her.
