The Darwin Incident (Darwin Jihen) anime revealed the first teaser trailer and a new visual, along with a January 2026 release date. The anime was announced in May of this year. Studio BELLNOX FILMS will be in charge of the animation, with Naokatsu Tsuda (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind) as the director.
The rest of the staff includes Katsuichi Nakayama as the series director, Shinichi Inozume handling the series somposition, and Shinpei Tomooka as the character designer. The anime previously revealed Charlie and Lucy character visuals on December 14 (Monkey Day).
The new visual and teaser trailer introduce Rivera. While not officially announced, Rivera is voiced by Akio Otsuka (All For One in My Hero Academia, Blackbeard in ONE PIECE) at the end of the trailer.
The first visual for the anime featured the two main characters, while the new one highlights Rivera. Charlie is also depicted as a toy on a chess board, implicating that Rivera will be the mastermind of his story.
While no description has been provided for the mysterious character, you can also see his character design below.
The Darwin Incident is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Shun Umezawa. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon seinen magazine since June 2020. The series won the 15th Manga Taisho in 2022, as well as the Excellence Award at the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival.
Kodansha USA is publishing it in English, and they describe the story:
Created in a biological science lab, Charlie is a half human, half chimpanzee hybrid known as a “Humanzee.” Raised by his adoptive human parents, Charlie is now 15 and starting high school. There he meets Lucy, a clever loner who becomes his first-ever friend. But his “normal” life is shattered when the animal rights extremists who freed his mother from the lab fifteen years ago reemerge as terrorists bent on kidnapping Charlie at all costs.
