Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is a popular manga series written and illustrated by Coolkyousinnjya. The series began serialization in 2013 and originally ran in Monthly Action, a manga magazine published by Futabasha. Following the magazine’s discontinuation in 2024, the series transitioned to Manga Action. Over the years, the manga has inspired multiple spin-offs, including Kanna’s Daily Life, Elma’s Office Lady Diary, Lucoa is My XX, and Fafnir the Recluse, all of which were serialized in Monthly Action before moving to Web Action.
A video game titled Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Burst Forth!! Choro-gon Breath was released in Japan in March 2022, while Aksys Games released it in North America in August 2022.
Kyoto Animation adapted Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid into an anime in 2017, with Yasuhiro Takemoto serving as director. Tragically, Takemoto passed away in the 2019 arson attack on Kyoto Animation, a devastating event that impacted the anime industry worldwide.
Despite the loss, Kyoto Animation honored Takemoto’s legacy by continuing the adaptation. The second season, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, aired in 2021 with Tatsuya Ishihara directing, while Takemoto was credited posthumously. The second season was as the Best Anime of the Season for Summer 2021.
