We’re making it to the deer pastures with this one! My Deer Friend Nokotan opening reached two million views less than a day after its release! Summer 2024’s hottest hit doesn’t belong to Taylor Swift or Fu Manchu; it’s all Shika-bu with “Shikairo Days.” With brain rot so infectiously debilitating that the CIA is currently releasing it into impoverished neighborhoods, the OP is making the rounds faster than the plague. 2024 may be the year of the dragon, but summer 2024 belongs to the deer.
The creditless version of “Shikairo Days” was uploaded to Twin Engine’s official YouTube channel on July 3 and within 6 hours passed the million-view mark, a feat Simon Whistler would cry about. And it’s a feat that’s well deserved; after all, it has cute anime girls, deer, and, more importantly, ghost deer. For those that don’t know, they are like deer but ghosts instead.
Shika-bu is a unit made out of:
- Noko Shikanoko – Megumi Han
- Torako Koshi – Saki Fujita
- Anko Koshi – Rui Tanabe
- Meme Bashame – Fuuka Izumi
Asking thought-provoking questions like “Why are humans not deer?” My Deer Friend Nokotan is a show that can provide insight into the human mind. It’s a show that disguises our longing for a deeper connection with the natural world and the things around us by presenting it as gag humor.
Adapted from Oshioshio’s manga, the anime adaptation of My Deer Friend Nokotan is animated by WIT Studio and produced by Twin Engine. It tells the story of Torako Koshi, a former delinquent who has convinced those around her that she’s as prim and proper as Twitter people want the world to think they are. But much like Twitter people, it’s all a lie. And one day, as Torako walks home, she sees it. Stuck in telephone wires, a human-deer hybrid hangs. The next day, that same entity bolts into her homeroom, injures a bunch of her classmates in a vulgar display of power, sits next to Torako, and calls her a delinquent.
Can Torako keep up appearances now that Nokotan is there? Check out the world premiere on Crunchyroll on July 7. Don’t you have a Crunchyroll subscription? Fear not, ADN, Anime Onegai, and Amazon Prime will also simulcast the show!
