This is a spoiler-free review of My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episodes 1 & 2. A more detailed breakdown of each episode’s story, character conflicts, and development will be published after the episodes are available to stream on Crunchyroll. The season premieres on Saturday, July 5.
Everyone’s favorite cosplay duo is back. My Dress-Up Darling returns for Season 2 after three years, and the charm is still very much alive. Not only is the show fun to watch, but it’s also surprisingly still informative when it comes to cosplay and dressmaking. I’ll be honest, cosplay and fashion aren’t really my thing, however, I can totally respect the passion behind them and the first two episodes helped me understand even further more why people are so drawn to it.
Season 1 already gave us a look into the world of cosplay and how much work goes into it. Season 2 continues that and even builds on it. The way the anime presents all this information is easy to follow and genuinely interesting. CloverWorks has also kept up its high production quality, which makes everything look even better.
What stood out the most in the first two episodes is how smoothly the show blends comedy, drama, and a bit of fan service. One moment you’re feeling the characters’ emotions, and the next, you’re laughing at a joke you could see coming but it still hits perfectly. Whether it’s the voice acting, the timing, or the buildup, the delivery just works.
I also noticed some elements that reminded me of CloverWorks’ other top-tier work, Bocchi the Rock! It’s nice to see a bit of that style carried over, especially in the comedic scenes, because we all know that a huge part of Bocchi’s success was its interesting way of showing comedy. It adds a familiar but fresh layer of humor to the series and makes it more entertaining to watch. My Dress-Up Darling may be a romance anime, but it really shines as a comedy too.
As for the fan service, it’s still there, but it feels more toned down this time. Maybe that’s just because the current part of the story doesn’t focus on it as much. Either way, when I think about the series, it’s not the fan service that comes to mind, but it’s the sweet and wholesome moments between Marin and Gojo.
And that’s the real heart of the show—Marin and Gojo’s relationship. Their chemistry was what hooked us in Season 1, and now it’s even better. Their story feels richer, more sincere, and it makes the show comforting to watch. With all that being said, the sequel of My Dress-Up Darling looks very promising and is shaping up to be just as enjoyable, and maybe even more heartfelt.
