The upcoming fall 2024 original sport fishing anime, Negative Positive Angler, revealed additional cast members today. The studio NUT production welcomed veteran angler and voice actor Masashi Sugawara (Chadros in One Piece, George Joestar in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) as Fujishiro, Rio Tsuchiya (Mei in Cue!, Kinu in My Deer Friend Nokotan) as Kozue Nishimori, and Hiroshi Tsuchida (Grisha in Attack on Titan, Damnatio in Black Clover) as Machida.
Masashi, Hiroshi, and Rio will be voicing characters who work at the same convenience store where the show’s lead, Tsunehiro Sasaki (voiced by Mutsuki Iwanaka), is employed.
Negative Positive Angler follows Tsunehiro Sasaki, a down-on-his-luck college student who finds out that he has a terminal illness and has two years left to live. One day, as debt collectors pursue him, he falls into the sea, where Hana and Takaki, a duo of anglers, rescue him. Noticing Tsunehiro’s depression, they encourage him to try his hand at sport fishing. As Tsunehiro dives into his newfound love, he’s quickly introduced to feelings that were unknown to him.
The production staff for Negative Positive Angler consists of Yutaka Uemura as director. Hiromi Taniguchi designed the characters and is the chief animation director. Tomohiro Suzuki manages the series’ composition and script. The show’s main voice cast includes:
- Mutsuki Iwanaka as Tsunehiro Sasaki
- Fairouz Ai as Hana Ayukawa
- Kaito Ishikawa as Takaaki Tsutsujimori
On their upcoming roles, the newly added VAs had this to say about the show:
“I’ve only been fishing once as a child during a family trip. But through the recording session, I was able to learn a lot about fishing, including technical terms.” – Rio Tsuchiya (Kozue Nishimori)
“As the title suggests, this show is about angling. But it’s for both people who love fishing and those who have never fished before. Participating in this show made me want to go fishing.” – Hiroshi Tsuchida (Machida)
“It’s not easy to express the charms of fishing… if there are lies in the details, enthusiasts will turn away. But this work is full of the staff’s attention to detail… this show should be watched not only by fishing enthusiasts but by those who have no experience in fishing; it may make you a better angler.” – Masashi Sugawara (Fujishiro)
