The upcoming Kinnikuman (Ultimate Muscle): Perfect Origin announced that it will premiere in July 2024. Production I.G is animating the anime with Akira Satou (Aoashi) as the director and Hirotaka Marufuji (Aquarion Evol) as the series’ character designer.
The new Kinnikuman anime series will be adapting the 2011 revival of Yudetamago’s original Kinnikuman manga, starting with the Perfect Origin arc. The production of the new series is also a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original Kinnikuman anime series. It was announced on December 2023 with a key visual, teaser trailer, and cast. The cast includes Mamoru Miyano, who will be the new voice for Kinnikuman, and Akira Kamiya (who was the original Kinnikuman) as the voice of both Mayumi Kinniku and Prince Kamehame.
Kinnikuman is a Japanese manga series created by Yoshinori Nakai and Takashi Shimada, also known as Yudetamago. It was originally published by Shuiesha’s Weekly Shounen Jump from 1979 to 1987 before restarting publication in 2011 at Shuiesha’s Shu Play news web magazine. It is one of the best-selling manga series in Japan, selling over 77 million copies. The series has inspired several spin-off manga, anime series, films, games, and merchandise. The original Kinnikuman anime series was aired from 1983 to 1986 with 137 episodes and produced by Toei Animation. It follows the story of Kinnikuman during a time of war. There is a three-way battle between three superhero armies: the justice superheroes, the demon superheroes, and the perfect superheroes. During all of the battles, the root of all the “superhero” species will be revealed, relationships will be deepened, and there will be battles with updated techniques and an unchanging drama of friendship. Everyone has a reason to fight in his or her heart!
