No\Name Begins Serialization Under Shueisha as First-Ever Manga by Non-Japanese Team of Creators

The No\Name manga by Rafal Jaki and MACHINE GAMU has begun its serialization under Shueisha as the publisher’s first-ever series created fully by an overseas (non-Japanese) team of creators. The manga first started as part of the Manga Plus Creators project by Shueisha, where it received the Gold Award in the September 2023 Monthly Awards.

Starting today, No\Name will be serialized in both Japanese and English on two of Shueisha’s major platforms: MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA and Shonen JUMP+.

The first two chapters were released simultaneously, with subsequent chapters set to follow a
bi-weekly schedule starting from chapter three. In addition to the digital serialization, there are
also plans underway to publish a physical version under the Jump Comics imprint in Japan.

No\Name is described as:
In this world, names are directly linked to a person’s abilities. The Nordic Naming Bureau (commonly known as NNB), which oversees name givers, handles the case of a man whose wife and son have gone missing. The NNB visits the man who intends to give his son the same name as his own, but…

The European manga creator duo consists of Rafal Jaki, known as the creator of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series (served as the showrunner and executive producer), and MACHINE GAMU, who specializes in black-and-white and fine-shaded drawings.

The MANGA Plus Creators by SHUEISHA project is run directly by the editorial department in Japan. It encourages overseas creators to submit their manga, and hosts monthly awards, offering cash prizes and the opportunity to be published in MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA and Shonen JUMP+ in Japan to stand-out submissions. No\Name is the first such work to reach the goal of getting serialized on those platforms.

While there were other examples of non-Japanese creators being involved in Shueisha’s manga (such as Boichi, the South Korean manhwa-turned-manga artist living in Japan and widely known as the artist of Dr. STONE), this is the first time they are serializing a series created by a team of entirely non-Japanese creators.
