Noragami Anime Announces 10th Anniversary Project

Noragami anime announced a 10th-anniversary project, accompanied by a visual drawn by the BONES co-founder, Toshihiro Kawamoto, at yesterday’s Anime Expo 2024 panel organized by Avex. According to the panelists, the project “is the start of something.” The visual still hasn’t been shared and the anniversary announcement comes a bit late as the anime originally premiered in January of 2014. It’s worth noting that Kawamoto was the character designer and chief animation director on the adaptation.

Noragami: Stray God is a manga written and illustrated by the manga artist duo Adachitoka. The series began serialization in 2010 in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine and ended in 2024. Kodansha USA licensed the manga in English in 2014.

The manga received an anime adaptation by Studio Bones which has a total of 25 episodes. The first season was produced in 2014: the final three episodes were filler content. The sequel, Noragami Aragoto, aired in 2015. The anime also has four original animated DVDs (OAD) and features original arcs not included in the manga. The first two take place between episodes 19 and 20 of the Aragoto, while the remaining two are set after the events of the second season.

Kodansha describes the plot as:
Yato is a homeless god. He doesn’t even have a shrine, not to mention worshippers! So to achieve his ambitious goals, he’s set up a service to help those in need (for a small fee), hoping he’ll eventually raise enough money to build himself the lavish temple of his dreams. Of course, he can’t afford to be picky, so Yato accepts all kinds of jobs, from finding lost kittens to helping a student overcome bullies at school.
