The previously announced Observation Records of My Fiancée: The Misadventures of a Self-Proclaimed Villainess revealed the main cast on Friday, along with stills from the anime. Miyu Tomita will voice the main character Bertia, and Yusuke Kobayashi will play the role of Cecil.

Studio Ashi Production is animating with Junichi ‌Yamamoto as director, Akiko ‌Inoue as the scriptwriter, and Miki ‌Matsumoto as the character designer.

Observation Records of My Fiancée: The Misadventures of a Self-Proclaimed Villainess is based on a light novel series written by Shiki and illustrated by Wan Hachipisu. It was initially serialized online on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website. AlphaPolis later acquired the title and published two volumes between May and September 2017. A manga adaptation by Natsume Hasumi ran from 2018 to 2021. A sequel series launched in April 2022 with a manga adaptation following shortly after.

The light novel is also available on Hanashi Media, which describes the story:

Exceptionally gifted to his own detriment, Prince Cecil had always found life effortlessly mundane. One ordinary day, his life took an unexpected turn when he became engaged to Miss Bertia, the Chancellor’s daughter. This engagement, however, was anything but typical.

“Prince Cecil! I must confess – I am the villain of this story!” Bertia’s declaration was startling. She claimed to have memories of her former life, where she had been the antagonist in a “Otome game”. Her lofty ambition was to excel as a villainess and thus have her engagement annulled. However, despite her plans for various misdeeds, her attempts have always been unsuccessful.

Is her fiancé, who aspires to master villainous finesse, simply misguided in his endeavours?

I can talk about seiyuus for days and a connoisseur of cute girls doing cute things. Fluffy romance and girls coming of age stories always make me smile. I mostly watch slice-of-life and rom-coms with drama on the side. A firm believer of the girls' band era.
