The ONE PIECE FILM RED movie has had the best opening weekend for any ONE PIECE movie ever, and the 2nd best overall with only the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Train above it. The movie drew in around 1.57 million people and earned 2.25 billion yen ($16.6 million USD) in the first 2 days of screening in Japan (August 6 & August 7). It was also the highest-grossing movie opening weekend this year.

The movie focuses on Uta, with the Red Hair Pirates also having a big part. Kaori Nazuka voices Uta, with Ado providing the singing voice. Four of the songs were already released alongside animated music videos, and they are the main theme song “New Genesis”, a collaboration with Mrs. Green Apple “I’m invincible.”, a collaboration with Vaundy “Backlight”, and a collaboration with FAKE TYPE. “Fleeting Lullaby”. You can read the official synopsis for the movie:
Uta —the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as “otherworldly.” Now, for the first time ever, Uta will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans —excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance —the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks’ daughter.
With the huge success of an opening weekend in Japan, it makes us even more excited for the international release of the ONE PIECE FILM RED, which is set for this fall!
