The Overlord: The Holy Kingdom movie has revealed a 2024 release date and a teaser trailer. The announcement was originally made during a special New Year’s program. Satoshi Hino (Ainz), Yumi Hara (Albedo), and Masayuki Kato (Demiurge) presented the information during the program, which went ahead on Tokyo MX despite the 7.5 earthquake that hit central Japan earlier in the day. The release of the information was postponed due to the situation after a major tsunami warning has been issued.
This is the third movie in the Overlord franchise: it will adapt Volumes 12-13 of the light novel. The arc was not included in the fourth season but events from it should have taken place around the 8th episode. The first two movies are recaps of the first and second seasons of the anime. They are titled The Undead King and The Dark Hero. Both came out in 2017.
The series is based on Overlord light novels written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. The first season of the anime adaptation aired in 2015. The second and third seasons both aired in 2018, with studio MADHOUSE animating. Two recap movies, also by studio MADHOUSE, exist. The fourth season, which finished airing in 2022, was initially announced with The Holy Knight movie.
The Overlord anime is known for its theme songs, which so far include:
