Re: Life in a different world from zero, also known as Re:ZERO, Episode 18 of Season 2 aired February 3rd, 2021. Like every episode so far this season, it did not disappoint. The start of the 2nd half of season 2 has really been impressive so far. The back story of Ryuuzu and the growth of Garfiel have been great to follow, but this episode really focused on Emilia’s past. Please, beware, as there are some spoilers are ahead if you haven’t seen the episode yet.
Re:Zero Season 2 Episode 18
The episode actually begins on the backstory of Beatrice, showing her relationship with Ryuuzu. However, it quickly focuses back on Emilia as she secretly explores the world outside. While wandering “Geuse” discovers her and we see him cry tears of joy at the sight of her. She joins him as he happily takes her back to mother Fortuna. Luckily it seemed all is well, and it’s precious to see Emilia get to experience life as a family with them. Sadly this is short-lived though as the Archbishop of Greed and mysterious Pandora quickly arrive. Fortuna tearfully sends Emilia away as she stays behind to help Geuse against the new threats.
This episode really delivers on an emotional level, as we begin to watch the shift of Petelgeuse. Slowly seeing him become a monster we originally knew him as was gripping. The tragic send-off Mother Fortuna gives to Emilia really hits home. The embrace with her daughter before sending her away almost broke my heart. Re:Zero Season 2 Episode 18 was truly a marvel as there are some excellent action scenes. However, the amazing story continues to shine through.
The animation remains very good, and the visuals top tier. However, Re:Zero continues to be one of the best stories out there. The exploration of not only the heroes but the villains really helps deliver a great experience to watch. White Fox studios bring another fabulous episode this week.
