The first key visual for the Sengoku Youko anime by White Fox was released today. The anime will premiere on January 10, 2024.
The opening and ending theme songs were previously announced, and are “Hibana” by MindaRyn and “Yuuyami” by KEIKO. The previously released trailer and new Sengoku Youko anime visual are below:
This is the series’ first key visual and displays sibling pair Jinka and Tama, voiced by Soma Saito and Yuki Takada, respectively. Anime Corner’s Jay had the opportunity to see an early premiere of Sengoku Youko at Anime NYC, and described the series as ‘ethereal,’ praising the ‘brilliant fusion of folklore and modern animation techniques.‘ The anime will run for three cours (~36 episodes) with Jay sharing that it was in part due to Crunchyroll’s cooperation that the series will have enough episodes to do the source material justice.
The Sengoku Youko staff includes:
- Original Work: Satoshi Mizukami
- Director: Masahiro Aizawa
- Series Composition: Jukki Hanada
- Character Design: Yousuke Okuda
- Chief Animation Directors: Yousuke Okuda, Shinpei Kobayashi, Yohei Yaegashi
- Music: Evan Call
- Animation Studio: White Fox
Tokyopop licenses the manga series, whose first volume is described:
The world is divided into two factions: humans and monsters called katawara. Despite being a katawara, Tama loves humans and vows to protect them from evil, even if it means fighting her own kind. Her stepbrother Jinka, however, hates humans, despite mostly being one. The siblings are joined by a cowardly swordsman named Shinsuke, who wants to learn how to become strong.
The people they meet, places they see, and creatures they battle will be legendary!
