Shadows House Authors Explain Changes in Anime

The authors behind the Shadows House series posted on Twitter to explain the changes in the anime adaptation of the manga. Fans were surprised when last week’s episode of the popular series made some changes to the manga storyline. Minor spoilers ahead.

In the fourth episode, Emilico and Shaun meet a veiled doll. The doll doesn’t talk to them and her appearance is reduced to a cameo. However, in the manga, she plays a more important role. Many fans were surprised by this decision, having expected the story to follow the manga closely.

Mangaka duo behind Shadows House, Somato, took to Twitter to explain this decision. In order to fit the story into the one cour frame (13 episodes), some script changes had to be made. This was done to keep the story cohesive, but it wasn’t originally in the plans.

Authors promise to connect the story and fix any plot holes if the series gets another season.

Funimation describes the anime’s plot as: High atop a cliff sits the mansion known as Shadows House, home to a faceless clan that pretends to live like nobles. They express their emotions through living dolls that also endlessly clean the home of soot. One such servant, Emilico, aids her master Kate as they learn more about themselves and the mysteries of the house.

While we wait for season 2, you watch new episodes every Saturday on Funimation, and vote for the series in our polls.
