UK music artist and manga author Shao Dow unveiled his new Blue Lock-inspired anthem “Striker” featuring Chrono last week on YouTube. The Brazilian Phonk track, merging English and Portuguese rap, has racked up around 14k views since its release. Alongside the music and visuals, it features cameo appearances from Blue Lock voice actor for Bachira, Drew Breedlove, and the popular Premier League and Spurs striker, Dom Solanke. The song came ahead of Shao Dow’s selection as the host of the Bandai World Card Games Fest in Europe this weekend and his upcoming debut performance at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. It also follows his anime convention appearance in Nigeria and his previous anime-inspired track “Overtake” for the One Piece anime.
Anime Corner interviewed Shao Dow ahead of “Overtake’s” release, where he shared his inspirations, journey, and ambitions to feature in a real anime one day. Fellow UK rapper Che Lingo made waves in his recent feature on Jujutsu Kaisen‘s soundtrack; Oasis’s “Falling Down” in Eden of the East, Ally Kerr’s “The Sore Feet Song” & Lucy Rose’s “Shiver” in Mushishi, and Rosa Walton’s “I Really Want to Stay at Your House” in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (soundtrack) are other examples of British artists featured in anime.
Bachira voice actor Drew Breedlove’s cameo in “Striker” appears to be part of a growing trend; Adam McArthur (Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen) cameoed in Megan Thee Stallion’s “Otaku Hot Girl” song this summer. The Blue Lock anime itself recently featured a notable crossover, as popular football commentators Luis García and Christian Martinoli appeared in Crunchyroll’s Latin American dub for the U-20 game.
