The Spice Girls anime, dubbed by Guinness as Girl Power: The Anime, was in advanced talks with the group’s management. The art includes the Spice Girls striking cool poses while holding guns, Victoria Beckham on a motorbike, and more. The anime failed to materialize, with Guinness saying that its potential success could have led to other anime combining the medium with pop culture, such as a Wu-Tang Clan OVA.
Guinness also spoke about his past roles at companies like Island Records, co-producing Ghost in the Shell, reflections about dubbing and the titles that they licensed, some of which Guinness said “in the benefit of hindsight is incredibly misogynistic and wrong” but weren’t out of their place given the time and culture, the demise of Manga Entertainment, and more. He also spoke about his ongoing charity work. You can check out the full interview at the AnimeEigo YouTube channel.
