Spy x Family manga author, Tatsuya Endo posted on September 30 an illustration of the series’ Anya Forger for the digital release of “SOUVENIR,” BUMP OF CHICKEN’s new song, which is the opening theme song for the anime’s second cour. The anime began broadcasting on October 1. It was a quote-tweet of the band’s post, which announced the release along with the lyrics on September 29.
The newly-released illustration shows the Forger family’s daughter and little Esper, Anya Forger happily celebrating the digital release of “SOUVENIR,” wearing her iconic pair of hair ornaments, a white one-piece dress, a long red-and-white stripe muffler, a pair of black boots, and what’s more, a cat’s tail. The costume is a reference to BUMP OF CHICKEN’s cat character, Nicole. In the picture, Anya clumsily fails to pronounce the “o” of the band’s name and calls the song’s name like a cat. Her line reads: “The stuff Bumpo f Chicken guys are singing came out. Souvenya~“
The WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks’ collaborative anime Spy x Family based on Tatsuya Endo’s Shonen Jump+ manga of the same name began in April and ended its first cour on June 25 in Japan with the 12th episode. The second cour began broadcasting on October 1, and the manga’s next, 10th volume is scheduled to be released on October 4. Prior to the premiere date, the anime released the non-credit opening video with “SOUVENIR” for the second cour on September 28 night.
Viz Media licensed the manga for English releases and describes the plot as:
Not one to depend on others, Twilight has his work cut out for him procuring both a wife and a child for his mission to infiltrate an elite private school. What he doesn’t know is that the wife he’s chosen is an assassin and the child he’s adopted is a telepath!
