The ongoing comedy anime series Teppen (stylized as Teppen—!!!) has revealed a new key visual. The anime, known for its full title Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing ’til You Cry, started airing on July 2 this year and currently has 8 episodes out. The anime skipped the second episode following the assassination of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe in July of this year due to the plot of the episode which involved an assassination conspiracy. The second episode will air on September 10.
Shinji Takamatsu serves as the chief director for the anime, and Toshinori Watanabe is directing. The anime, animated by Studio Drive, is written by Jun Kumagai, who is best known for his work on the Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju series. Musical ensemble Technoboys Pulcraft Green-Fund is doing the music.
In addition to the new key visual and broadcast information for the skipped episode, Teppen also announced that as a part of the partnership with the city of Minamishimabara in Nagasaki Prefecture, a donation drive has been started in order to produce a special episode set in the city.
Teppen is based on a manga series by Inujun and illustrated by Namamugi. The story revolves around a real-life Seiyu San-Shimai Team Y unit formed by voice actresses Mikoi Sasaki, Aimi, and Ayasa Ito. It has been serialized on Bushiroad’s Monthly Bushiroad since January 2021. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime, which follows a high school comedy trio consisting of Yayoi Sakamoto, Yomogi Takahashi, and Yuzu Hosono in their quest to participate in the comedy championship, the Teppen Grand Prix.
