The Cat and the Dragon Season 2 Announced for 2027

The Cat and the Dragon (Neko to Ryu) is getting a second TV anime season, scheduled to air in 2027. The announcement came following the first season’s finale, which released on September 19, 2026.

A Season 2 announcement trailer was released alongside celebratory illustrations from the director and character designers. Original author Amara, novel illustrator Mai Okuma and manga artist Izumi Sasaki also shared messages celebrating the continuation.

Studio OLM was in charge of the animation, with Jin-Koo Oh as director, Mitsutaka Hirota writing the script, Rie Nishino and Chiaki Kurakazu as character designs and Takahiro Obata as music composer. The cast includes:

  • Takehito Koyasu as Nekoryu
  • Kikuko Inoue as Mama-nyan
  • Fuka Izumi as Shirotae
  • Show Hayami as Kurobane
  • Noriaki Sugiyama as Haibuchi
  • Maki Kawase as Chiikuro
  • Shinnosuke Tokudome as Kurotama

The anime is based on a light novel by Amara with illustrations by Mai Okuma. It was initially launched as a short story on the web novel platform Shosetsuka ni Naro from September 2013 to June 2014, later getting picked up by Takarajimasha for a print release in April 2016. The series also has a manga adaptation by Izumi Sasaki.
