An exclusive clip featuring the first four minutes of Twilight of the Gods animated series has been released during Netflix’s Geeked Week 2024. It began streaming on Netflix on September 19, with eight episodes available.
Zack Synder is one of the executive producers for the series, alongside his wife Deborah Snyder, as well as Wesley Coller and Jay Oliva. Stone Quarry Animation and Xilam Animation both produced the series, with Sherry Gunther, Shugerman, and Eric Carrasco serving as producers.
For Zack, Twilight of the God‘s adult-oriented storytelling direction makes sense, especially how Norse mythology in the traditional sense is very much an adult sort of adult content. He also: “I think what [animation] does is, it allows us to be really truthful in our storytelling. And it allows the audience to experience a thing that’s really unexpected and really exciting.”
Meanwhile, Deborah highlighted that the series’ story really is about Sigrid’s quest for revenge, adding that when her whole family, her whole village is murdered on her wedding, she feels like she has to take action: “She’s sick of being a pawn of the gods, and she wants to fight back … Even though she’s just about to embark on this new life with the love of her life, she feels like she cannot do that until she gets justice for her family and village.”
Zack further added that while Sigrid’s choice for revenge is wrong, her story also highlights how the main character is willing to go that far for the people they love the most.
Twilight of the Gods is based loosely on characters and storylines within Norse mythology. It was first announced in June 2021 in Netflix’s Geeked Week event of the same year. Netflix describes the series as follows:
Zack Snyder unleashes a bold and bloody vision of Norse mythology in this adult animated series about a warrior with an ax to grind against the gods.
